The secrets to successful weight loss – Part 1

A few years I ago I fell sick with strep throat. Unable to consume anything other than water, I lost thirteen pounds in a week and a half. After that the weight melted off as my metabolism kick-started into gear and in a year I managed to lose over thirty pounds. In that time I managed to give up the things I love by replacing them with healthier foods that satisfied my urge to snack. Flavored rice cakes and butter-less popcorn replaced potato chips; coffee with cream and sugar surrendered to tea with a splash of skim milk; fast food hamburgers and fries gave way to veggie burgers and oven baked potato crisps. Once I had passed the initial craving stages it was so easy to resist the things that used to rule my life. I found ways to curb sweet cravings by adding lean protein in my diet.
I wasn’t one of those fat people that was happy despite the extra cushioning. I was disgusted with my weight and it controlled every aspect of my existence. After the weight was gone I was a different person. My depression lifted and I had a new lease on life. I socialized more and even met and fell in love with a coworker. The drawback was the fact that a few short months after dating him, I found myself pregnant. The thirty pounds I lost doubled by the end of the pregnancy and although at the time I was not bothered by it, I knew it would be a long road to find my way back to the healthy thinner version of myself I once knew.
I don’t believe there is a surefire way to lose weight. You have to be in the right frame of mind in order to be successful. Unfortunately the world we live in tells us that if we are fat, we are inferior. I’ve been a victim of that thought and at times I’ve attempted diets for all the wrong reasons. The only right choice is doing it for yourself; to be healthier in the future. Losing weight properly can actually lengthen your life. Imagine that; something as simple as shedding a few extra pounds can make you live longer. If only it were as easy as that. You have to possess the strength of mind over your in-born desire to make yourself happy with oral stimulation. Is it all a test from up above? After all, if you are up on your bible reading, it tells you that gluttony is a sin (one of the big ones!) and it can come in many different forms and disguise itself as many different desires. There is one thing that can combat the cravings you are born with. We all possess it but many of us find it difficult to find when we need
