Finding a better way to weight loss – Part 7

I wandered into a way to lose weight absolutely painlessly without even knowing it would happen. Plus I am now saving between $1,920 to $2,400 per year because of it.

For years I have gone to sandwich shops and small restaurants for lunch in the neighborhood where I work. I thought it was great. I always brought a book, relaxed and ate food prepared for me by other people.

One day, I didn’t feel like going to any of those eateries. It just seemed tedious to leave my desk at the office and go sit somewhere else and eat. It occurred to me that I might enjoy going to the grocery store nearby. But I don’t like their deli food so I decided to bring my own sandwich.

I found that if I made some celery stuffed with peanut butter or cheese I could eat it on the way to the market. By the time I got there I wasn’t hungry anymore. All of a sudden I realized I was saving $8 to $10 per day by not going out to lunch. That’s a good $160 to $200 per month savings. Wow. That made me happy.

Then I realized that I actually enjoyed going to the market on my lunch hour. It’s relaxed there during the day. It’s actually kind of quiet and soothing. It’s not like the weekend rush where people are stacking carts high with a week’s worth of food. Now, I could walk through the aisles and pick up a few things to put in the car to take home after work.

I also realized I was doing a bit of exercise at lunch while getting a normally tedious chore done. Walking instead of sitting at lunch feels good. It gets the endorphines moving through my system and I feel refreshed when I return to work.

No longer do I have to plan a weekend 2-hour trip to the grocery store. I get to stay home with a well-stocked fridge and shelves and relax. I also have found that visiting the store a few days a week helps me pick out fresh fruits and vegetables that I look forward to eating at snack time and fixing for dinner that night.

And, I have lost weight. I’ve lost a lot of jiggly fat because I don’t sit around eating sandwiches with bread and chips. I don’t eat salads with fattening dressings. I just eat really good vegetables, cheese, peanut butter (I prefer soy butter) and fruits.

On the days when I don’t need to go to the grocery store I go other places like the fish market or the wine store. These are fun places to go and I have a little time to look at recipes or talk to the personnel about what foods or wines are new or fresh. It’s fun and relaxing.

I’ve lost weight, saved money, freed up time on the weekends for fun and relaxation all by painlessly giving up the lunchtime trip to the deli.
