Pros and cons of the Weight Watchers weight loss program – Part 7

As a seasoned ‘dieter’, and having for most of my adult life been surrounded by dieters, from experience and talking to others, Weight watchers has always come out as the best of the weight loss programs.
I think there are many reasons for this as i will explain.
Pros
1. The weight watchers plan is not just about the weight loss you achieve – it is also about maintaining your goal weight. Once you have achieved your goal weight, and stay within a couple of pounds of this and attend just a few meetings a year, you now have free membership which is a great way to stay motivated and promotes a lifestyle change and not just a crash diet.
2. The materials you are given when you sign up and at each meeting are both useful and motivational. The weekly material contains success stories, exercise suggestions and recipes. They are great to keep for future reference. With the introduction of the weight watchers website, there are now more support tools than ever!
3. Weight watchers promotes weight loss in at a healthy rate. They suggest an optimum weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week, which is considered healthy by professionals. I have actually heard someone who lost around 5 pounds in a week being told that this was too much to lose per week for any length of time which i found very reassuring.
4. Weight watchers meetings seem to be different to other meetings i have been to and heard about through others. The weigh in as you arrive at the session is confidential – no reading out of your weeks loss, good or bad, so you do have a level of anonymity. It is your choice later in the meeting whether you want to share you experience with the group and you can be as involved as suits you.
5. Exercise is highly promoted at Weight watchers, and you can earn bonus points for exercise done over the week, which is great if you are going out or have a special meal planned. Weight watchers teaches you about balance between eating and exercise and promotes the importance of this well.
6. Weight watchers have a number of plans to suit you. I found the pure points worked particularly well for me as it allowed me to be in control of what i was eating and by planning your meals in advance as they suggest, you can build in little treats. It almost feels like you are not on a diet as no foods are forbidden, buy instead teaches and promotes balance and moderation, extra exercise to compensate for the treats and goes along with the ‘a little of what you fancy’ school of thought.
