When I had my first child, I gained a lot of weight and became quite a plum size! I did not pay much heed on it in the beginning because I was more concern with my baby’s health. Friends and family advised that I should eat for two when I was pregnant. Therefore, for the sake of our child, I did nearly all that was advised to me without realizing that eating for ‘quality’ is better than ‘quantity’.
After my delivery, I did not loose my weight and I found myself feeling very sloppy and losing my self-confidence due to the extra weight, fats or water retention all over my body. I felt lousy and depressed.
Not too long after our first child was born, about 7 months later ~ I conceived again. I became so depressed because I didn’t expect another baby so soon. After delivery, I enrolled myself in a slimming sanctuary. Crazy as it may sound but I knew then why some women would do anything just to look good again. I did that and I paid quite a price just to loose my weight!. I only breast fed my second child for 2 weeks and after that I went straight into getting my body slimmed. I went through the slimming program for a few weeks which included nutritional dieting. I did slim down from the program and felt really good after that. My colleagues were amazed that I was so slim after two kids. This definitely boosted my self confidence.
Another surprise came nearly two years after my second child. I was pregnant for the third time! When my friends asked if I would go back to the slimming sanctuary, I immediately found myself telling them ‘no’. Since I was not so overweight, I didn’t feel so bad this time. I figured it’s best that I just control my eating because the bottom line is to diet in order to loose weight rather than spend so much money at the slimming sanctuary.
Again it wasn’t the end yet…two years later my fourth child was conceived. For my fourth child, I decided to breast feed for as long as I could. This was partially because I was planning not to have any more babies… therefore I wanted to ensure at least my youngest child should get more from breast feeding since my other kids didn’t have the privilege.
After two months, I went back to work but I continued pumping breast milk for the next 4~5 months. I would also try to go home during lunch breaks just to feed my baby. As much as I wanted to continue, I wasn’t lactating much after this. I had to stop after 7 months due my daughter was teething and biting me. Anyhow, I never regretted what I did because my continued breast feeding actually helped so much and without me realizing it, I slimmed down tremendously!
When my friends asked me what did I do to slim down? I said it could be breast feeding as I hardly exercise. I can confirm this now after reading so many articles on the benefits of breast feeding. I wish I knew this much earlier and if only I had breast fed each of my child for at least six months, I think I wouldn’t have been so depressed during those days. Now I will definitely encourage all my friends or family to breast feed.
Give yourself a chance…always love yourself, your baby and ensure to breast feed your baby if you can. I’m sure you’ll never regret it!.
