Finding the perfect weight loss formula

I have lost nearly fourteen pounds, and am still losing, following the most basic rule of weight loss; consume fewer calories than you expend. The key is to keep track of everything you eat. I keep a food journal. I write down what I have eaten, how many calories per serving, how many servings and the total number of calories.

When I began my ‘diet’ I bought a food scale, a digital scale for me that measures to the tenth of a pound, and three sets of measuring cups. I went on-line and used a calorie calculator to help me figure out about how many calories I should be consuming in order to lose weight.

For me 1500 calories is my limit. As long as I don’t eat more than 1500 calories a day I will lose weight. As I lose weight that number may change and [ Continue Reading ]

Calorie counting in the fight against excess weight

Let me just do a quick summary so you know where I am coming from.

I was involved professionally with 2 weight reduction organizations after losing over 100 pounds; one from 1967-1975 and Our Weigh 1975-1979 and was very successful in helping people lose weight and motivating them.

I have been fighting fat for 60 years of my life, sometimes losing but mostly winning the past 41 years and, trust me, at 72 it isn’t any easier.

I’m a hard taskmaster when YOU tell me you want to lose weight and won’t accept any excuses for not doing what you should do and what you say you want to do. I’m patient at the start but lose my cool after a few weeks if I feel you are not serious.

What I want to do here is just relate some things I have [ Continue Reading ]

There are also studies that suggest that same is true and that there is a significant correlation between eating papaya and losing weight. Despite the nutritional benefits of papaya, not too many are aware of its benefits when it comes to weight loss solutions.

Papaya is a fruit that has a musky taste and it sometimes tastes bit like pineapples and peaches. The papaya has a soft texture and has a yellow-orange flesh. If the papaya not yet ripe, its skin is green. Once ripe, the skin [ Continue Reading ]

Diet secrets of naturally slim people

When you see a healthy and slim person, do you automatically envy or resent them? Perhaps you think no human could ever look that good effortlessly, and believe they have an eating disorder or underwent liposuction. As a naturally thin person, I’ve had my share of snide glares and comments from jealous women. In defense of all naturally skinny people everywhere (excluding supermodels and those with an overactive thyroid condition), I can vouch that we don’t purge, starve, or overwork our bodies with punishing amounts of exercise. Good genes aside, we simply practice these common sense tips:

*We don’t diet.

We don’t have to, since a diet is a temporary way to lose weight. Slender people are living proof that a lifelong regimen of healthy eating [ Continue Reading ]

Drama Over Atkins Weight Loss Plan

It all started when a doctor sparked on a topic within earshot of an ardent low-carb blogger. The doctor, an associate professor, Dr David Katz of Yale University was reported by Forbes to have claimed that the Atkins diet had resulted to the hospitalization of one of his patients. The blogger and also purveyor of low-carb diets Jimmy Moore of Livin La Vida Low-Carb Blog felt his feathers ruffled by this claim.

Moore, author of the weight loss book with a similar title to his blog, and the subtitle ‘My Journey from Flabby Fat to Sensationally Skinny in One Year’ claims to be living proof that low-carbs work. He says he has lost over 180 pound on a low-card diet in a year. In his blog on he posted an article titled ‘Health experts gang up on Atkins Diet’ [ Continue Reading ]
