Commonsense weight loss tips – Part 39

In fifty two years of life I have spent over 40 battling weight loss and failing until I realized several things. First there is no magic diet any diet can help you lose weight but it can also cause severe damage to your system so the first thing you need to do is STOP dieting! That is a really hard thing to disgest when all your life you have been told that in order to lose weight you must diet. After years of yo-yo dieting and hitting 524 pounds I knew I could not afford to diet any more. Dieting was killing me! Once you have given up diets it may seem you are deemed to be fat forever but as I discovered the key to losing weight is to eat. I am sure you are now asking what? Yes you must eat, to get energy, to satisfy hunger and to get your metabolism going. Unfortunately most of us eat garbage and that is what leads to health issues and weight gain. Our food is processed and refined with huge quantities of added fat and sugar and of course fast foods often dominate when we are rushing here and there.

So while you must eat, you have to use common sense when eating and cleaning the junk out of your eating program is key. Most of us are not going to be able to do this over night so start slow. Start really considering what you are eating, reading labels or better yet choosing foods that have no labels. Thats right fresh and natural foods! While they still have sugars and some fats there is a balance of vitamins and nutrients that is much healthier then that of processed foods. Also much lower in calories so guess what? You can actually eat more food while getting fewer calories and more energy, nutrients and fiber. I though the man was nuts but years ago a Doctor told me losing weight was simple there were man-made foods and god made foods, stay away from the man-made foods and you’ll lose weight. I thought to myself, yeah right, it should be so simple and I blew him off. Well years later I find he was right and it is just that simple!

I wasn’t able to go cold turkey from all the foods I had come to enjoy but I could start making better choices, one at a time and adding to them. I refused to starve and I refused to have any taboo foods. Starving yourself not only puts your body into conservation mode where it slows down and burns fewer calories but it leads to cravings. The moment you make a food taboo it becomes more desirable. Craving a food? Then eat it! The longer you try to avoid that craving the more substitute foods you eat and the more you really want
